The colour lab

Before being a ceramist, I am a painter and colour is my language. One of my two studios is dedicated together, interact and contradict themselves. Miquel Barceló

It would be the story of an encounter, the meeting of a man with a an element: clay… Preparing an exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in 2000, the artist from Mallorca came over to work in our workshop for almost a year.


It is through the combination of two wishes – Gérard Garouste’s, who wanted to see his paintings in an architectural space; and mine, who wanted interpret his pictural language using a different medium, ceramic – that the dialogue existed and the artwork was born.

The Crack

We put all our efforts for the creation of a work, a monumental mural… and then, at the opening of the oven, something weird appears, something that bother us, a black trail. I painted this fresco as much as it painted me

Ceramic and architecture: ceramic as mural art – Study day at the Kéramis Centre, on the 20th of January 2018, La Louvière.
